Easter Bunny Mania

Spring has sprung and the Easter Bunnies (along with some chicks and ducks) are populating the thrift store shelves.

There are so many...I guess the rabbits are living up to their stereotype.

Here are a few I came across just in the last few days...

This blue-eyed bunny looks a little forlorn, but just wants to make your Easter a little more festive.

This is a farmer-rabbit taking care of his chicken...which is confusing because that would be like one animal taking care of other animals. Like a raccoon-farmer milking a cow, or a beaver-farmer feeding his goats.

This zombie Easter Bunny couple has a bountiful basket for you.

I have no comment about this baby bunny except that he's super-cute and I wish he were real.

This pile of rabbits is definitely keeping up the stereotype of the quickly multiplying bunnies.

The thrift store has them all.
Cute, fuzzy bunnies.

Giant bunny heads.

Cross-eyed bunnies with books in their pockets.

Pink bunnies that just want your money.

Even a frazzled looking chick (people call me that all the time).

Our family has some long-standing Easter traditions and I love them all. Egg decorating with Paas, egg "pipping" Easter morning (this involves smashing two eggs together and the one that doesn't crack is the champion - a very complex game), and jelly beans for breakfast.

But the most important tradition is to slow down for the weekend, sit on the back porch and catch up with much loved family and friends...while probably eating way too much!

I wish you and yours a lovely weekend. I hope you get to relax and enjoy some time reconnecting with your tribe.

And as this is the season of renewal, blooming and blossoming, I wish you all of that too..both in your garden and your life.

Real or Reproduction

As you are hunting around for treasure at yard sales and flea markets, you will come across things that make you wonder if they are original or reproductions. It can be hard to tell.

These are a couple tip offs.

One, does it look a little worn? It should if its really antique or vintage. Even the best kept china got moved around in the cabinet, the doll's vinyl body and hair faded a bit, or the lunch box got a little rust around the hinges. If it looks shiny and new, chances are it is.

Two, are there a lot of them? If you are in a shop or flea market stall and there are ten of the items you've been looking for and haven't been able to find...they have probably been manufactured. Unless you are at a reputable dealer who specializes in that item, then you may have hit the jackpot for your particular collectible.

A good way to gauge if it is a reputable dealer is they will be happy to answer your questions about if the item is authentic or not, and how you can tell. A dealer with a passion and knowledge about that item, will enjoy explaining that all to you. A disreputable dealer, not so much.
